The more I work on myself, the closer I've become with my Higher Power and I'm glad of that. This is Tip 11 and coincidently Step 11 of the 12 Steps is prayer and meditation. The steps are the reason I've reconnected with my spirituality. When I was little, God was my best friend and I spoke to Him every night. They say one is never as close to God as children, but I'm getting my relationship back to almost where it was when I was six, and it's truly a blessing.
Sometimes, with all the shopping and to-do lists at this time of year, we can forget what the holiday (holyday) is truly about. I try to take extra time for thanks every day for everything I have. It takes the focus of what I don't have, and probably don't need under the Christmas tree.
So prayer is important to me for giving thanks and asking forgiveness too. But it also is one
of the most effective ways to stay sober, along with meditation. Prayer is talking to our Higher Power and meditation is listening. By taking time each day to focus on your spirituality and connect with a higher power, you can strengthen your resolve to stay sober and overcome any temptations that may arise.
Here are some tips for incorporating prayer and meditation into your holiday routine:
Set aside time each day for prayer and meditation. Even just 10-15 minutes can make a big difference in your mindset and help you stay centered throughout the day.
Find a quiet, private space where you can meditate and pray without distractions. This could be a spare room, a corner in your bedroom, or even outside in nature.
Use guided meditations or prayer books to help you focus your thoughts and stay on track. There are many resources available online or in bookstores that can help you develop a daily practice.
Consider attending religious services or other spiritual gatherings during the holidays. These can provide additional support and a sense of community for people in recovery.
Remember, staying sober during the holidays requires effort and commitment, but with the right strategies and support, you can enjoy a happy and healthy holiday season.
Have a blessed day and tomorrow is Tip number twelve!
